1968

His spirit of observation, chance or perhaps destiny provided him with a fundamental element for the creation of a new pictorial style thus allowing the passage from classical figurativism to an extremely innovative technique for those times, a technique that had the power to to enchant the public and also the artists of the time who, fascinated by those colors (and also by the success in sales) very often left their usual way of painting to try to imitate this new way of making art.
Certainly today it would not cause that much, but, then, at the end of the 1960s, when there was still no talk of modern furniture, that type of painting, simple in its essence, never went unnoticed.
In fact, even if he did not realize it at the time, A. Romino had created a real style that made the most of his followers in the schools.
In fact, "IL RILIEVISMO" was adopted by the teachers who by chance met it and proposed it to school groups.
Certainly the Relief that the young painter had created was based on compositions obtained from oil painting with luminous effects due to the use of special purples, however the attempted imitations with the most disparate materials, even if approximate, were still of a certain effect and satisfactory for those who performed them.

An interesting episode that happened in those times to the then light-hearted young painter took place in Venice:
it was the year in which the great Spanish painter Mirò made people talk about himself at the biennial, for a fortuitous circumstance, the painter A. Romino was for pleasure in that city and, since when he traveled he used to carry an easel and some paintings like any good "hippy" of that time, he exhibited it right near the entrance to the Biennale at the Lido, obviously without wanting to, because at that time he was not interested in large exhibitions or famous painters.
He remembers the interest aroused in the art critics who noticed him, and who, hoisting the canvases aloft with great nods of approval, continually murmuring the name of Mirò ... Mirò ... gave him an appointment in the same place for a next hour, telling him that they had some very important things to propose to him.
But what did the light-hearted painter do? After 5 minutes, he sold the two canvases at the first request and went to enjoy the beautiful Venice.
In hindsight, remembering that episode, she realizes how crazy a young person's head can be, however, this episode that could affect her existence, now helps her to better understand today's young people.

They saw him protagonist on the art scene, from success to success, reaping a lot despite having sown little, if that golden age had lasted forever, he would have lived his life in vain, materially rich but infinitely poor in spirit.
But, his Angels, the Beings of Light who accompanied him in every moment of his life, forced him to follow an obligatory path by placing before him all the possible difficulties that a man can face and, at the same time, they enlightened him by giving him the certainty that each of these difficulties could always be overcome, without any dejection or despair.
A spiritual serenity that took him from the mere craftsmanship of the painter of the past to the man of thought, the philosopher, the full artist he is today.

This year his first solo exhibition of painting at the Golden Brush by Silvio Godina (Via Chiaja)
To describe the tremendous success of this exhibition, I refer verbatim to the words of Silvio Godina, the director of the gallery who in an article in a newspaper the following year, on the occasion of the change of the name of the gallery, said:

1) "... What do you wish for the new season?" Another Romino ". Antonio Romino, a very young painter and sculptor was the" star "of the past season. In his first solo show, he met with a success that rarely occurs in our city. "

2) "... We wish this artist and his Van Gogh many" Rominos "."

It was in 1980 that his first work was born, rich in interiority in every little detail.
In previous years he had had the opportunity to understand how many passions were contained in the objects that often accompany us for an entire existence, and then, are easily thrown away.
Walking one morning on the coast after a storm, he noticed many small objects arranged on the sand that invited him to collect them and almost to listen to the many stories that each single object had lived: it seemed that they still had so much to tell and still carried the emotions of many people they had lived with, so many human feelings they had appropriated.

The SEA, the great sea, the wonderful force of nature had arranged them at his feet, like a story ready to be collected and destined for others, an invitation to which the master could not resist: he collected the objects and took them to the studio , placed them on the back of the canvas as if to signify the importance of the priority of the CONTENT over the mere aesthetic FORM and

brought back to life by starting his first work of a style that he defined POP-INFORMAL, a style that in the "revival" of recent times, is giving him great satisfaction. "

All'estero invece l'Arte contemporanea continuò a progredire senza alcun intralcio.

90's
The Pop-Formal Style

"Decadentism" shocked Italian art in general from the end of the millennium to the very first years of the new century. A decadentism caused in large part by the protagonism of a certain criticism that he advocated, first thundering loudly from television studios and then from high seats, the unconditional return to classical art, a return that unfortunately has been and has lasted for a very long time , a return that caused, for obvious economic reasons, the abandonment of Art by many good artists of the time who did not know how or did not want to adapt to the new trend of an essentially formal and anachronistic art. From this period in Italy there are the testimonies given by the countless copies of classical paintings overflowing in the various flea markets (see the "Angels of Caravaggio"). Abroad, however, contemporary art continued to advance without any hindrance. I resisted this Baroque wave and did not let myself be overwhelmed, although blaming the economic hardship caused by the return of this art form made of frills, lace and reproductions, I continued on my creative path by translating pop-informal into pop-formal. A series of paintings on the theme of the prevailing "tangentopoli" and some irreverent canvases on the theme of the "woman no longer belong to this early pop-formal period (which I define" mud period "as I used to add mud in the mix of colors). object but unaware of having undertaken a path that would have undermined the foundations of society "

Terra come Madre come Fertilità come Donna.

A series of female nudes belong to the second period, known as the "period of the fertile land", in which the woman regains her femininity and presents herself in all her serene beauty. "La Leda with the swan" and "Magdalena" belong to this second period. By now the mud was no longer part of the mix of colors, the earth took its place, a fertile land, the most fertile I could find, the one that hardworking peasants took care to move every day and from which they drew their sustenance. Earth as Mother as Fertility as Woman.

Bianco & Nero

White black

It was after the summer of 2006, when I had the opportunity to participate in an artistic event in my city, among the exhibitors was a young painter with his black and white paintings. For the first time in my life I was perplexed in front of works that were not mine, I admired something that seemed to speak to me strangely about the future, strangely because the figurative-figurative, the one made with the double zero brush, I had already archived for over 30 years considering it a loss of precious time, since the same effects, certainly better, can be obtained with the simple click of a camera, yet ... something indefinable disturbed me ... but I couldn't understand what. Then, one of those phenomena that have always accompanied my life happened: a strange unkempt character, on a bicycle, promising seas and mountains, approached the young man presenting himself as an Angel! It is euphemistic to say that he was very unkindly sent to "that country". But my perception was different, I understood that once again the circumstances had led me there and that that "someone was there to give me indications on something to decipher. Despite the lack of time at the end of the review, I collected my paintings and went back A few weeks passed and already on the easel I could admire the black and white paintings that took shape, were impressive, aesthetically pleasing, momentarily even very satisfying .....

2007 Slots & Hinges .....Already! momentarily ... in fact after a few days I began to wonder why I was wasting time painting in this way, they were beautiful ... yes ... but what did they communicate? how could I have publicly presented them and what would I have narrated if not my perplexities? Then the events pressed, Dr. Enzo, a very dear friend of thought, self-confident and very practical, persistently convinced me to send one of these paintings to an exhibition in Milan ... he was practically right, it was a success. Despite this, my doubts persisted, indeed they were accentuated. Meanwhile, the date of the personal exhibition at the Viterbo art fair was approaching, I was divided between Enzo's insistence that he pushed me to hold in high regard the latest creations and my hesitation due to the fact that with these paintings my presence at the fair it would have been useless, I would not have been able to narrate, I would not have been able to give anything of what I used to give as during past exhibitions. Yet there had to be a reason why I had dedicated myself to the drafting of those works .... why the Angel? ... what is the real purpose? It was a real love at first sight! Something that gave us a very lively and intense emotion, the doctor still feels the chills crawling his skin .... I remember that I jumped up from the chair in which I was absorbed and slumped and exclaimed loudly: "that's the reason! .. . here are the indications of the Angel !! "Yes, I would have brought the canvases to the fair but also a cutter, I would have opened them and I would have shown everyone that behind that facade there was a whole world of spirituality still to be discovered! By cutting right there, randomly or not by chance, on the part depicting the wall of the church, I would have entered the House of the Lord together with those with me, from black and white we would have entered the joy and fullness of colors with the thousand stories that the rear informal-pop allowed me to be able to narrate. And so it was. Thanks Angelo, whoever you are and wherever you are now. The "Hinge" After the "Gaps" came the time of the "Hinges". Why the "Hinge"? An artistic work, be it figurative or informal, must pursue the intent of being pleasant in its aesthetic form and at the same time be rich in content, capable of transmitting trust to a humanity that today seems to be increasingly unmotivated and distracted but in reality the spirits they are strongly thirsty for spirituality. Without pausing pleased with what at first glance manages to satisfy the sense of sight, by opening a hinge it is possible to enter the world of the soul, of contents, of the essence of things. The zipper is meant to be the link between a limited figurative reality and the infinite emotions of spirituality.
